What’s There?

Outdoor Amphitheater, Francis Anderson Center, Edmonds, Arts Festival.
Outdoor Amphitheater

Inside the Francis Anderson Center you will find juried art galleries as well as galleries of art produced by local K-12 students.  There is also a stage where various performances take place.  The Kids Create program gives kids visiting the festival a chance to create art of their own.  Kids Create is staffed by volunteers and free to kids accompanied by an adult.  Some people miss this indoor area of the festival, but not only is there a lot to see, it can provide a welcome break from the June sun or the equally likely June rain.

An outdoor amphitheater showcases performances by local professional as well as student musicians.  Seating in chairs is limited, but there is also a large grassy area where you can stand or sit.

Outside you can also find the rows and rows of booths where local artists sell their creations.  There are creations to wear, to put on your table, to decorate your garden, or to hang on the wall.  In one booth we found a man who makes fascinating, intricate pictures from tiny pieces of cut paper.  In another there were colorful glass creations as well as stemware for the table.  Photography, metal work,  jewelry, wooden puzzles, sculptures, and furniture can all be found here. Every price point is represented from $1 pins to art pieces  costing tens of thousands of dollars.

Near the amphitheater you can also find the playground.  When the weather is good, this sees a lot of use as kids take a break from the more adult activities.  This is a pretty nice ages 3-12 play area with a merry-go-round, slides, and climbing areas.  Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of shade, so in sunny weather kids get hot pretty quickly.

The Food

When you get close to the festival, you will smell the food.  Food trucks and canopied booths are located at the north end of the field as well as at the plaza at the southern end, near the buildings.  The plaza includes a beer garden too.  You can get standard festival foods like hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and kettle corn.  There are also local favorites like clam chowder and salmon, and more exotic offerings like Hawaiian pork, Piroshky, and Caribbean tamales.  We stopped at a food truck called Here and There and had some really tasty black bean sliders and a fruit shake.  Of course, you should expect to pay festival prices for all of your food fun.

Practical Matters

The Edmonds Arts Festival takes place Father’s Day weekend, rain or shine.  When it rains, the ground can get pretty churned up and muddy, though they do put mats down to help with that.  People using mobility devices may want to proceed cautiously in wet weather.  The 2018 festival enjoyed sunny weather, and we were very grateful every time a breeze came in off the water.

Sign for the shuttle pickup area, Edmonds Arts Festival, Edmonds, Washington
Off-site parking with a shuttle service is available.

You have two choices when it comes to parking.  The festival has a free shuttle that brings people from an off-site parking area.  Look for signs as you near the festival if you want to use this.  When we were there, signs were posted apologizing for shuttle delays due to heavy traffic.  The other option is to find street parking.  You may have to park quite a ways away from the festival, though we have always been able to find somewhere that we consider walking distance.  If you park on the street, be sure to notice if you are in a 3 hour only zone and that you are parked legally.
