We’d been to Pike Place Market a number of times, and I’d never stopped at Ellenos Real Greek Yogurt.  Why would I?  To me, yogurt was what you pack for lunch when you can’t find any good leftovers to take.  You know– yogurt, crackers, and some carrot sticks.  Ho-hum.  Then we took a food tour of Pike Place Market, and Ellenos was the second stop.  They brought out little trays with sample cups of Marionberry yogurt, and I took a bite just be polite but really intending to save more room for later stops.  And everything changed.  It was like a Marionberry Pie met up with a fresher version of Creme Brulee.  I looked at Justin and knew he was thinking the same thing.

Now, Ellenos is a must-do stop for us at Pike Place.  The Marionberry is still a favorite, and it’s a very Northwest flavor since Marionberries were developed in Oregon.  My very favorite is probably the lemon curd, but since I can get those two flavors at my local Haggen store, I opt for the passion fruit flavor if I’m at Pike Place.  It’s a great flavor, and they serve it with the crunchy, black passion fruit seeds mixed in.  In the top picture, it’s the one behind the Marionberry.  To be honest, I’ve never tried anything there that I didn’t love.  The Walkaround size is about 8 ounces, and is just right as a very satisfying dessert for one, or a sharing size for two people who are planning to do more snacking at the market.  They also sell larger sizes to take home.

Luckily, Ellenos has some other locations in the Seattle area and even in Oregon.  You can also find them in grocery stores like Haggen and Whole Food in Washington, Oregon, and parts of California. Smith Brothers delivers some flavors and sizes.

These days, I still take yogurt in my lunch sometimes, but it’s always Ellenos, and I’m always excited to have it.
