How Long Should My Disney Cruise Be?

As you start planning your first Disney Cruise, you may wonder, “How long should it be?” When I asked my kids, they fervently said, “As long as humanly possible.” However, it’s possible that reality may intervene here. Most of us have limited time and money for our vacations. Here are 4 reasons to consider a longer Disney Cruise.

Entende-se que pessoas com dificuldade de aumento dos níveis de câncer e o uso de cada parte do corpo seja diferente em cada um dos dois medicamentos. 1. It may take time to get your adult time.

If you have kids, you may not get that alone time right away.

If you’re dreaming of dropping your kids at the club and then having a mojito in the Quiet Cove, that may not happen on day one. Or two. Or maybe even three. On our first trip, our youngest were 5 and about to start kindergarten. They were very interested in the kids clubs, but they didn’t want us to leave them there. We took them to the open house times and played with them. Justin and I both remember thinking, “This isn’t what I was hoping for.” Then, about day 3, they were ready for us to leave them there for short periods of time. By the end of the week, they were having a grand old time, and we could do whatever we wanted.

2. Consider not splitting your time.

A popular choice is to plan a vacation split between Walt Disney World and a Disney Cruise. It’s sort of two vacations, but you only have to fly there once. Unless you have a heck of a lot time (and money) you might have a more satisfying and restful trip if you just did one at a time. Take a cruise this year, visit Walt Disney World the next one.

A longer Cruise gives you more time to see the shows and enjoy the nighttime entertainment.

Here’s the rationale: if you only have a few days to do the parks, you are likely to pack your time, trying to get it all in. The same will be true for a cruise. What if you chose a more relaxing vacation? Instead of trying to cram in both vacations, consider a 7 day cruise. That will give you plenty of time for exploring the pool, meeting characters, getting some adult time, experiencing all the activities, etc. And the following year when you have a week to do Walt Disney World, you can have a more relaxed pace there as well.

We’ve chosen to go more this route ourselves. However, if we could manage a half day or even a day at Disney World on either end of the cruise, I think we’d take it. It would just be a half day at a water park or dinner at a favorite resort restaurant–a little bonus fun rather than a full-on park vacation.

3. More destinations.

You can see Alaska on 5-7- or 9 night Disney Cruises.

If you take a 3-night cruise from the U.S., your possible destinations are pretty much Ensenada, Nassau, Castaway Cay, and Key West. If you are taking a longer cruise, there are far more destinations to choose from. You can travel all over the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico, Bermuda, the West Coast, Canada, Alaska, Europe, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal. You could cruise year after year without seeing the same ports if you chose. Take a look at all the possibilities on the Disney Cruise website.

4. More is better.

I’ve had friends who took shorter Disney Cruises, and they didn’t get into it the same way as the people who took longer ones. Being on a long Disney Cruise is awesome. About day 4, I really feel like I’ve settled in, and I’m having an amazing time. I want it to go on and on, and I’m sad when I have to get off. That makes me sound about 5 years old, but it’s true.

And 2 Reasons to keep it short.

1. Time or money constraints won’t allow you to take a longer cruise.

That’s real. Maybe it will work for you to wait a little longer to save up vacation time and money. Or maybe that’s not practical. A quick getaway might be the perfect thing. Take your 3 day cruise and more power to you!

2. You’re not sure.

If you’ve never taken a cruise before, you may feel a little tentative. What if you’re seasick the whole time? What if your kids don’t aren’t independent at the clubs? What if you’re not sure you like your travel party well enough to be stuck at sea with them for a week? I’d say pack your Dramamine, take your kids to open house (see reason 1 for taking a longer cruise) and remember that it’s a big ship. However, you may only feel comfortable if you proceed more cautiously. Maybe you’ll be ready for a longer one the next time.

Whatever length cruise you choose, Bon Voyage!
