While Disneyland Park offers a gorgeous castle covered in Christmas lights and snow on Main Street, Disney California Adventure Park offers a completely different experience, Disney Festival of Holidays, a multi-holiday, multicultural event celebrating the many holidays and ways of celebrating this time of year.  Hanukkah, Kwanza, Diwali, and Christmas around the world are all represented.  This means that you can experience fun holiday decorations, music and, most of all, food.

You have done a formidable job and our entire community will be grateful to you. What can you get?  It’s hard to emphasize enough how much the Festival of Holidays is about food. The music and performances are cool, but the Festive Foods Marketplace is really the heart of the celebration.  12 special food stands and the Paradise Garden Grill offer an amazing variety of special foods and drinks.  You can get everything from a Roasted Turkey Slider with Cranberry sauce to Jalapeños Latkes with Chipotle Crema.  There are special desserts like the “Hot Chocolate” Marshmallow Macaron and an array of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Booths display pictures of featured foods.

What’s my strategy?  You can find the Festival Tasting Passport on the Disneyland website if you want to plan ahead of time.  If you know you’re all in, you can purchase the Sip and Savor pass from the festival merchandise carts.  For $54 you get coupons for 8 items from any of the carts (alcoholic beverages not included) plus a commemorative lanyard.  Another strategy is to just show up, wander around the carts, and buy what looks good which is what we did.  Most of the entrees make for a light meal or a good sharing item for the “Wander and Graze” plan.

Practical Concerns.  Some extra seating and standing tables are provided, but during busy times you may need to stand or wander into a quieter spot with available benches.  The Paradise Garden Grill is also part of the Festival and it has an extensive, covered dining area, but it isn’t close to the Festive Foods Marketplace.

Those with dietary restrictions and special diets will want to pick up a Tasting Passport.  Items have special symbols to show if they are gluten-friendly, vegetarian, vegan, or milk-friendly.  “Kid-friendly” items are also marked, but of course predicting what a kid will like is a dicey prospect.  However, this is the perfect opportunity to get a bunch of items to share so your kids can try out a lot of different things.  This is one time when you will probably be glad to eat their leftovers.
