Pike Place Chowder–Without the Wait

Post Alley at Pike Place Market is home to all kinds of tasty eateries, but if you see a line stretching down the alley, around the corner, and onto the sidewalk, you are probably looking at the line for Pike Place Chowder.  These folks have won awards for their clam chowder both locally and at prestigious east coast “chowda” competitions.  They rank right up there on various foodie guides to Seattle, and if you’re in Seattle on a rainy day, chowder just seems like the thing to eat.  It’s not surprising that people are willing to stand in long, long lines for a chance to try their food.

On the other hand, you really don’t have to wait in that line.  Instead of getting food from the main establishment, walk inside, past the LoPriore Bros Pasta Bar (well, maybe stop off there for some great food also) and  go straight to the Pike Place Chowder Kitchen.  You can even order ahead of time online at pikeplacechowder.com or using their app which is cleverly called Pike Place Chowder.  Even if you don’t order until you’re standing in front of the counter, you will save time.  Justin suggests the 4 chowder sampler. You get 4 types of their award-winning chowders, and they throw in an apple too.

There are signs up warning you that ordering from the Kitchen location doesn’t entitle you to any of their designated seating, but even if you don’t find other seating (which you probably will) since you didn’t just stand in a 40 minute line, you’ll probably be fine.  Pike Place Chowder also has another sit-down and indoor (often important in Seattle) location at the Pacific Place Shopping Center.
