About Us:
We are a family of 5 living in the Pacific Northwest. We like to travel locally and to any Disney destination we can afford. I’ve read about many families who hit the park each day in custom-made, matching t-shirts and ear hats. This is not us. We may manage that someday, but for now, if we make it out the hotel door with everyone in sunscreen and fresh underwear, we call it a victory. Our family has made and will probably continue to make all the tourist mistakes like over-packing and forgetting our toothbrushes. We started our blog to share our fun and our mistakes. We hope it will help you find more fun.

Why We Travel:
The first time all 5 of us traveled to Disneyland was when the twins were two and our older child was seven. The day after we got back, we all had to head off to school and work and daycare, and we were going in two cars. The twins and I were following the other car, and when we got to the bottom of the hill, we all happily waved like mad as we pulled up behind the guys. Then they headed off one direction, and we headed the other. We all felt this sense of let-down and loss at having to leave each other.
When we travel, we spend more time together of course, but we also all have common cause as we try to get to Space Mountain before the line gets too long or find a rest-stop where everyone can stretch their legs. We build memories we all want to talk about. And here’s the odd thing—the mishaps can be as fun to reminisce about as the triumphs. “Remember the time Mom forgot to pack the toothbrushes?” “Remember how hard it rained at Nasa?”
We also travel because it gives us all something to look forward to. In that long, dull stretch from the first day back to school in January to spring break, it’s incredibly helpful to have something to anticipate and plan. Will we eat at our favorite restaurant twice? What should we do first? These make ordinary, week-night dinner conversations into a little piece of vacation for us.
So the bottom line is that travel just works for us as a family. It brings us closer together, it gives us something to look forward to and something to look back on.
