1. Soundtracks
One of the easiest ways to enjoy Disney sounds at home is to listen to soundtracks from the Disney movies. You can find soundtracks in iTunes or on your favorite music streaming services. Then you can Whistle While You Work, folding laundry or mowing the lawn to classic Disney songs. You can even find some Peloton workouts with Disney soundtracks. 10 minute arm toning is way more fun with songs from The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
2. Music of the Parks
While I love the movie soundtracks, they don’t really sound like the Disney parks to me. That’s because the parks have instrumental versions of the songs as well as other music that’s not from Disney movies. For example, on Main Street you can often hear instrumental version of songs from the musical Oklahoma. Critter Country has atmospheric music I’ve never heard anywhere else. This is where I turn to YouTube. I usually just search for “Disney Parks music loops.” Don’t ask me how these people get them, but there are great recordings of the Disney Parks’ ambient music. Some of my favorites are the Esplanade, Pixar Pier, and Critter Country. I’m also very fond of the Magical Express music even though I’ve never ridden on it. Some of these recordings have a ton of ads, and some have only a few.
There’s other music that was written just for the parks too such as the soundtracks for Space Mountain, the Tiki Room, and Fantasmic. Every decade or so, Disney seems to put an album of music from the parks. The first version I every had of this was a record from about 1980. I remember that it had the whole soundtrack to America Sings and Lincoln’s speech from Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. (I can still quote it!) I owned several parks albums on C.D., and now I stream the latest one. It was put out in 2015 and it’s called Disneyland: The Legacy Collection. These are great for getting my Disney fix at home.
3. All The Other Sounds
There are so many other sounds from Disney you probably know if you’re a fan of the parks. Would you recognize the yeti’s roar from the Matterhorn or Expedition Everest? What about the sound the machine makes makes when a Cast Member scans your ticket or you tap your Magic Band? The Dapper Dans? Or the bell on the train as it pulls into Main Street Station? If you think about it, I’ll bet you can hear the announcer guy saying, “Permanecer sentados, por favor.”
But where can you hear all these Disney sounds? During one of Disneyland’s anniversaries, there was a place in Tomorrowland where you could put together a playlist of all your favorite Disney sounds and have them burned to C.D. right there. These days, you can find some of them on the Disney Parks albums or search for them on YouTube. Some are available as ringtones you can download. A friend of mine went to a Disney convention and paid for the Disney announcer guy to record her voicemail message. One of my favorite ways to enjoy these sound are just to watch videos I took walking around in the parks. The sounds take me back every time.
