1.  A Swimsuit

You probably won’t be sunbathing at the beach in Skagway, but the pools and hot tubs on board will be heated the whole time.  I have fond memories of my kids frolicking in the pool while the lifeguard watching them was hunched up in his foul-weather gear.  In addition, you may plan to use the Rainforest room in the spa.

2.  Sunscreen and Sunglasses

There may be some sunny days on the trip, and you may be spending a lot of time outside.  Particularly on Embarkation Day in Vancouver, I’ve been glad to have sunscreen and sunglasses as I watched the kids swim and then stood on deck for the Sail Away party.

3.  Binoculars

There is so much to see from the deck of the ship, and you will likely be glad for a pair of binoculars to get a better look at seals, whales, and other wildlife.  If you choose a wilderness excursion like whale-watching or the Mount Roberts Tramway, you’ll be glad for a pair as well.

  1. When we went, we didn’t use swimsuits, didn’t dress up much for formal night and didn’t use earplugs. But those are all good ideas! I think we took swimsuits just in case and good to have if you go to the spa. I have never used earplugs on a cruise. And we often wear jeans, tennis shoes and a nice shirt for formal night.

    • Yes, there are a lot of ways to cruise, and there’s a lot of variety in what people wear for formal night. It’s your cruise, so you should do it how you want!
