It’s also possible to separate kids from each other when they are wearing on each other’s nerves.

So What’s The Downside?

Well, you lose the verandah and the view to the outside.  That is significant for some people, particularly for those who want the view to help with motion sickness or claustrophobia.  You have to book far enough ahead that you can get adjoining staterooms which are in limited supply.  Also, it’s only cheaper on some cruises.

Tell Me More!

 I ran the numbers for an upcoming Alaska cruise on the Wonder.  The 5 of us could stay in one Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah which is 304 square feet for $14,186.  We could stay in two Deluxe Inside Staterooms with a total of 428 square feet for $10,729.86.  We would be paying less to have more space but no verandah.

However, I ran the numbers for a Caribbean Cruise on the Fantasy.  Two Deluxe Inside Staterooms which have a total of 408 square feet were $11,839.60.  A single Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom (no verandah) with 240 square feet was $10, 398.  This time it was cheaper to be in one room rather than two.  To be clear, I’m not sure I’d be willing to squeeze 5 of us into 240 square feet for anything other than a Disney Cruise.

So my best advice for families of 5 planning a Disney Cruise is to know what’s most important to you and to spend some time exploring and pricing all your options.
