The Vibe
The atmosphere is different from a normal Starbucks. It is a large, open space, crowded, and pretty loud. The music is louder and much less mellow than a typical Starbucks. This is more of a place to meet with friends than a neighborhood spot you might go to study or finish a report for work.
There are big tables for communal seating, some easy chair groupings, and lots of higher tables for standing or sitting. On Saturday night, it was very crowded. It was pretty competitive to get any kind of sitting or even a standing table. When we arrived at 1:15 on Sunday, it was pretty packed, but we got a standing table. By 1:40, things had cleared out, and we were able to pull over some chairs from the empty table nearby.
As you enter you pass through a merchandise area with branded mugs, shirts, coffee, and even a bike. To the right is the bar area where you can get coffee with alcohol and also a bakery area with flatbreads and other bakery items.
Ahead is a coffee and snack area. Beyond that, down a flight of stairs, you’ll find another coffee bar and the roasting area. The roasting area is quite extensive, full of conveyor belts and copper pipes. They were in full roasting mode even on a Sunday afternoon or a Saturday evening.
The Food
The selection of food changes depending on when you are there. For example, one Saturday night, it was a lot of small-plate items. However, on a Sunday afternoon it had more of a brunch feel with pastries and flatbreads.
In the bakery area, we tried a cheese focaccia, and margherita flatbread. We also tried a flatbread with shaved ham, artichoke hearts, red pepper, and mushrooms. All of these were tasty, though the kids preferred the plainer flatbreads. These were in the $8-$9 range, and they cut them up so they were easy for us to share. The three flatbreads were enough for the 5 of us to share since no one was starving, and we wanted to have room for dessert.
Dessert was three different types of chocolate cake and two cold brew malts. The desserts were also $8-$9 each and were a nice size for sharing (or not.) The cold brew malts were all kinds of tasty and $10 each. They had a distinct but mild coffee flavor, and they were very smooth and thick.
Kid Considerations
This is a good place to bring kids (and plenty of people had) if you come at a time when you can get some seating. Kids are not generally impressed by standing tables. While your child may not find their usual Starbucks favorites here, we saw lots of pastries and snackables with kid appeal. The roasting area provides some built-in entertainment too. They can watch the beans go through the pipes and the bags go along the conveyor belt. There was a wait for bathrooms—something else that kids are not generally impressed with. A family restroom was available. In short, if going with young kids I would try to avoid peak times for the best experience.
