On the advice of a wise friend, we headed to Clement Street for lunch one day when we were in San Francisco.  It will now be our go-to location for lunch or dinner when we are in town.

The Clement Street Vibe

One of the things we enjoyed about Clement street was that it had a very San Francisco feel without being particularly touristy.  It had rows of Victorian houses set closely together, but they weren’t the Painted Ladies-just real everyday businesses and places were people lived. There were restaurants, groceries, coffee houses, and small shops.

We started out by wandering around a bit.  In the blocks we explored, we found Chinese, Japanese, Burmese, Vietnamese, Mexican, Italian, French, American food and more.  When we looked up the ratings for these restaurants, most were extremely well-rated.  Choosing just one was hard.

The Food

After a lunch at Burma Superstar that deserved its own article, we stopped at Genki for some delicious crepes.  They served both sweet and savory crepes in the front of a small asian mini-mart.  Several of us got ice cream crepes, and I thoroughly enjoyed a banana and Nutella crepe.  While you wait for your crepe to be made, it’s interesting to check out some of the specialty candies sold there including multiple flavors of Kit-Kat candy bars.

Toy Boat was our next stop because Lee wanted a root beer float more than a crepe.  This was a fun, eclectic spot, and she says that it is the best root beer float she’s every had.

We only had time enough to explore the section of Clement Street between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue.  There were so many places we would like to come back to try.

On a Tuesday at lunchtime we were able to find street parking with a little effort.  If we had been driving west to east we would have found parking more quickly because it was angle-in parking rather than parallel parking on that side, so there were more spots available.
