The queen in the master bedroom.

As a family of 5, it’s often difficult to find a hotel room that gives everyone a real bed to sleep in.  That’s why we picked Staybridge Suites on our trip to San Francisco.  With two bedrooms, two baths, a living area, and a kitchenette, there was room for everyone.

The master bedroom contained a queen bed, a walk-in closet, a bathroom, and a separate sink and vanity area. The second bedroom had two double beds, a regular closet, and a similar set-up for the separate bathroom and vanity areas.  The second bathroom had a full tub and shower combo.  Both bedrooms provided good storage space and their own t.v. set.  The bedrooms were very dark at night with the shades drawn.

The living room was comfortable, but strangely had the only items that looked like they hadn’t been recently updated.  The ottomans were cracked and worn.  It certainly wasn’t a big deal, but it was odd. The couch folded out to accommodate up to two more people.

The kitchenette contained a cooktop with several burners, a microwave, coffee maker, a full refrigerator, a dishwasher, and sink area.  The cupboards provided basic dishes and cutlery.  There was also a bar area for eating.

Breakfast

A good free breakfast is important to us and this one was above average for the price range.  In addition to make-your-own waffles, hot eggs (scrambled or done like an omelet) and a breakfast meat were always available along with cheese and salsa.  They served fresh and canned fruit as well as yogurt daily.  There were always muffins, bread, and bagels.  A toaster was nearby along with the usual condiments.  Several types of cereal were provided, and there was a vat of pre-made oatmeal that ran out if you were pushing the end of the breakfast time slot.  Milk and juice were provided.  In addition, a coffee area was available all day along with hot water, tea, and instant hot chocolate.  We never hit a particularly busy time and always found somewhere to sit.

The Facilities

The pool and hot tub area looked nice, but it was too cold for those to be tempting.  There was also a sport-court with a basketball hoop.  Outdoor barbecue areas were also provided.

The pool and hot tub area looked clean and well-maintained.

The hotel was very close to the San Francisco Airport, and you could hear that.  Sometimes there were several flights very close together, and sometimes hours would go by without any noticeable  noise.  The hotel left earplugs in both bedrooms.  Honestly, once I was asleep, I didn’t notice any noise, but I sleep more soundly than some people.  The earplugs would be a good call for some people, and those who are particularly noise sensitive might want a hotel in a different location.

We were in the larger suite which accommodates up to eight people.  They also have suites that have one queen bed in each bedroom as well as the fold-out couch.

While Staybridge Suites is next to the San Francisco Airport (SFO) it is actually located in San Bruno. It was about a 30 minute drive into San Francisco.  We chose the location because the closer you get to San Francisco, the more expensive and smaller the hotel rooms get.  Once we’d decided we were okay with commuting, we picked the San Bruno area because it doesn’t require crossing a bridge to get to the city.

The See’s Candy Factory is located nearby in South San Francisco.  It didn’t look like there were any tours available, but there was a retail store.
