Review of Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas

As we planned our recent trip to Walt Disney World, we all agreed on one thing: we were going to eat again at Sanaa. For all of us to agree on our top restaurant choice is fairly rare, but Sanaa delivers on food, setting, atmosphere, and service.

Setting

  • Sanaa, bird in the window

You can’t beat a restaurant with a view. Sanaa is located at Kidani village which is part of the Disney Animal Kingdom Villas. We’ve never stayed there, but it is definitely fun to visit. The architecture includes African stylistic elements as well as African art. As you may know, Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Villas are built to give you views of freely grazing animals. We have visited Sanaa for both lunch and dinner, and both times we saw a variety of African animals such as giraffes, gazelles, and cranes. Sometimes they even walk right up to the windows. After our meals we walked out to a little viewing area to get a better look. There was a knowledgable Cast Member as well as some posted guides to tell us what animals we were seeing.

Atmosphere

Sanaa review, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas

Sanaa is fun and relaxing without being especially fancy or formal. Columns that look like tree trunks support a stylized tree canopy overhead. African art is displayed in niches around the walls. While the decor is interesting enough on its own, the view of the animals is the real star. If you’re dining at Sanaa for dinner, try to arrive before sundown so you can enjoy it.

There is no dress code at Sanaa, but we have felt comfortable dressing a little nicer for our meals there. A sundress or nicer shorts with a collared shirt is definitely fine. At lunch there were also people in just basic theme park attire as well.

Service

The service at Sannaa has been great both times. We were lucky to have the same server for both of our dining experiences, even though they were six years apart. Food arrived at the appropriate times, and our drinks were refreshed before we ran out. Our server was knowledge about the food and didn’t even blink at the egregious amount of ginger garlic naan we consumed.

Food

  • Food at Sanaa review

The dish everyone recommends at Sanaa is the Indian-style bread service. They’re not wrong. The bread service comes with 5 different kinds of Indian bread and nine different accompaniments. Try everything, and then order extra of your favorite bread to eat with your meal. We can’t get enough of the ginger garlic naan.

The food at Sanaa is described as “the art of African cooking with Indian flavors.” We have eaten quite a variety of dishes there. We have not always loved everything, but it has always been interesting and well-prepared. This time several of us had the tandoori chicken which was very good. The butter chicken was excellent as well. Aidan enjoyed the tomato bisque soup, and I appreciated that the iced tea was freshly brewed. The only disappointment was the cheese pizza made on traditional naan bread. The kids loved it on a previous visit, but this time it was just kind of soggy and unappealing.

Overall, the food is quite flavorful, but it doesn’t tend to be hot in the spicy sense. A few of the accompaniments to the bread service had a little heat, and our server pointed them out. If you already know you like Indian food, then this is an interesting take on that cuisine. If you’ve never tried Indian food before, this is a pretty accessible way to start.

  1. We’ve never eaten at Sanaa. It is on our bucket list of places to eat. Hoping to get there at some point in the next year. The view of the savannah looks like an amazing backdrop to dining. Thanks for the review! -Andrea
