On a recent trip to Batuu at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, we decided to try out Oga’s Cantina. While Batuu and Oga’s Cantina seem to be pretty similar whether you visit it in Disneyland or Walt Disney World, there are a few differences as well, so it’s worth noting that we were in Disneyland.

The Atmosphere

The whole point of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is that you’ve been transported to the world of Star Wars a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. If that actually happened, it would be cool and interesting, but it wouldn’t be relaxing or cozy. Oga’s Cantina fits right into that feeling. You definitely feel like it’s the sort of bar where you might find a bounty hunter or a rebel spy. It’s busy, it’s loud, and if you remember your classic Star Tours experiences, you’ll be glad to see that Captain Rex is back as D.J. Rex.

The Experience

Oga’s is a popular experience, so reservations (Disney calls them ADR’s for advanced dining reservations) are a good idea. When you arrive at your appointed time, you will still have to line up outside Oga’s. Our wait wasn’t particularly long, but if it had been a hot day we would have been uncomfortable. A cast member checked us off the reservation list and told us the rules: the time limit inside the cantina is 45 minutes, and you can have a maximum of 2 drinks.

The cast member also let us know that most parties would be combined with other groups and most people would be at standing tables. We politely asked for a booth, and they had us wait off to the side for about 5 more minutes until there was space available.

They seated us at a large booth with two other parties, both of whom were pleasant to make conversation with. We compared drinks and took turns taking pictures for each other. I’m guessing groups with small kids are likely to be seated at booths since kids wouldn’t be able to see the tops of the standing tables.

The Food

There are some snacks at Oga’s, but if you’re hungry, I’d suggest stopping off at Docking Bay 7 or Ronto’s Roasters before your reservation time for Oga’s. There are really only 4 offerings.

Oga’s obsession is basically jello with popping pearls and a pretty, crunchy garnish. It was tasty, but probably the kind of thing you only need to try once. $7.50

The Bantha Cookie come with the Blue Bantha drink, but you can just order it on its own. This was tasty and, like Oga’s obsession, it would probably keep a kid busy for a little while so you can enjoy your drink.

The Happabore Sampler is basically a charcuterie board. In keeping with the idea that you are in a galaxy far, far away, it’s a little weird. There were two cheeses, and I liked them both fine. One was kind of in the line of a parmesan. The other was some kind of wine-infused cheese like maybe Derby. There were three kinds of meats. I liked one of them okay, and the others I didn’t really care for. They weren’t bad, but I didn’t like them, and the mustard and the other sauce on the plate just made matters worse. There were some pickled vegetables which were fine, but I don’t care for really sweet pickled things, and these were quite sweet. There were also some big, puffy crisps which might have been good if I liked seaweed because there was seaweed powder sprinkled all over them. That’s the green stuff you can see on them in the picture. Basically, I ate the cheese, sampled the other things, and stopped. $21

The Batuu bits at Disneyland are different than what’s being offered at Walt Disney World. This was a snack mix that was long on rice crackers and wasabi peas. $8.

The Drinks

The drinks are the stars at Oga’s Cantina. They tend to be in odd shaped glasses or fizz or have popping pearls, but they mostly taste like what you’re looking for in a drink.

The biggest stunt drink by my standards is the Fuzzy Tauntaun. This is peach and orange with vodka and schnapps. I thought it was quite tasty. The stunt part is that the “buzz foam” on top makes your mouth tingle. A lot. I had one sip and didn’t really noticing anything until a minute or so later when my lips and tongue began to tingle. They kept tingling for the next 5 minutes or so.

The Yub Nub was the next thing I tried. I picked it mostly because I know someone who really needed the souvenir Endor mug. The mug was heavy ceramic, not just plastic. Like most souvenir mugs, a clean take-home mug is presented to you at the end of your time all packaged up in a box, ready to cram in your suitcase.

I’m not a big drinker, nor do I have particularly rarified tastes. What I can tell you is that the drink was basically fruit juices and rum, and it was awesome. It was also a lot stronger than I was expecting. By the time I finished the drink I knew I did not need a second round in the same visit. I had FASTPASSES for Big Thunder, and I wanted to be able to enjoy that or at least remember it.

Mixed drinks at Oga’s Cantina run about $15 except for the Yub Nub which was $40 in the souvenir mug. There are also beers, cider and wine for about $13 dollars, and a Rancor Beer Flight Souvenir Board with Four Teeth for $85.

Is Oga’s Cantina For Kids?

Oga’s Cantina is perfectly appropriate for kids if you’re okay with having your kids in an environment where people are drinking alcohol in moderation. It’s kind of noisy and fun and has a robot d.j. which you may or may not be able to see from your table. The whole experience can only be 45 minutes long, so kids won’t have time to get too bored. Kids will not be impressed with the standing tables, however, so you may want to request a booth.

Oga’s serves 6 non-alcoholic drinks (not just for kids, of course) that are just as fancy as the alcoholic drinks, but at about half the price. Kids even have the option of the Cliff Dweller, a concoction of fruit juices and ginger ale served in a souvenir Porg mug for $35. Your best bets for a hungry kid are Oga’s obsession or the Bantha cookie.
