The Tangaroa Terrace Tropical Bar and Grill is now open at the Disneyland Hotel.  On a recent trip, we stopped by to check it out.  To make sure we did a good job, we checked it out twice.  In one day.  Spoiler alert:  we liked it.

Location

The Tangaroa Terrace is located at the Disneyland hotel.  You do not need to be staying at the Disneyland Hotel to enjoy the restaurant.  If you take the Monorail from Disneyland, it’s just a short walk. It is on the back (North) side of Trader Sam’s, overlooking the pool.  It has both covered outdoor and indoor seating.  Eating outside would be perfect some days and allows you to listen

to the live music coming from Trader Sam’s. However, it was a little cool and breezy the evening when we were there, so it felt good to go inside and eat at a booth.  Since one end of the restaurant was open to the outside, we could still hear the music, but it was quieter and easier for holding a conversation.  Since we’d already had a busy day at the parks, the calm was appreciated.

Bar and Grill?

Inside, the Dole Whip served with a splash of rum is the only alcohol served.  However, just outside there is an outdoor bar which just sort of flows into the whole Trader Sam’s bar area.  Tangaroa terrace also has an expresso bar.

The Food

Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s share the same kitchen and the same lunch and dinner menu for adults.  That means the offerings at Tangaroa Terrace are tried and true.  We enjoyed everything we had, and I’d say that the stand-outs were the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings, The Panko Crusted Long Beans, and the Pork Gyoza. The Pu Pu Platter has a nice selection for snacking, but if you are making a whole meal, we suggest buying whole orders of several things to share family style.  In addition, there are grab and go items such as fruit, pastries, and bottled beverages.

The Kid’s Menu

Kids have a few more options at Tangaroa than they do at Trader Sam’s.  There is a Salmon Bowl, a Power Pack, a Cheesburger meal, or a Chicken Nugget meal.  Our resident expert also reports that their chicken nuggets are the best served by Disney, and that includes the cruise ships.

Breakfast too!

Tangaroa Terrace serves both American standards and tropical-inspired breakfast treats such as Pineapple Upside-Down Pancakes and Tangaroa Toast.  We did not have a chance to try out the breakfast menu.  We’ll have to do that another time.

Mobile Ordering:

Mobile Ordering is available at the Tangaroa Terrace.  When we used that, we found that they pack your food to go, though you can eat it at the restaurant.  The second time, we just ordered at the restaurant.  Service was fast, and everything just looks better served on a real plate.
