We love food trucks, but it’s not always easy to locate one you want, and then the eating conditions are often less than ideal. When we heard about the Soma StrEAT Food Park in San Francisco, we knew we’d have to check it out.

Our Experience
We arrived on an overcast Monday in December at about 2:00. In other words, this was not their busy time.
There was an abundance for seating and practically no lines at any of the trucks. Score! There were outdoor tables as well as a sizable covered and semi-enclosed space that would be very nice on a rainy day. There was even seating available on an old, converted school bus.
We found a huge variety of food available, and everything we tried was really good. There were no boring trucks. Every place had something I would try. We had pizza, empanadas, kimchi rice balls, Filipino-American comfort food, and more. Everything we had was very good, and it was easy to find something for every member of the family. We were also impressed that they didn’t charge an outrageous amount for drinks. One truck was out of one their best-sellers, but that’s just something that can happen with food trucks.
The Vibe
While we were there at a really slow time, it was also obvious that sometimes there are a lot more people at the park. Signs were up for all kinds of events including a bocce league, a cornhole league, a trivia night, and a crab feast.
Wi-fi was free, and you could take your dog. There was a happy, eclectic collection of different food types including vegetarian and vegan options. The location had obviously developed in a very organic and unregimented way. One area had picnic tables, while another area had tables and plastic chairs. It was about as different from a big-chain restaurant as it is possible to be.
Family Factor
This was a good destination with kids. To begin with, there were places to sit down with the food. There were kid-friendly food options like pizza and apple empanadas. Plate sharing was easy to do so that everyone could try out new dishes. The park even had real restrooms which were decent and so much better than any portable option.
It’s worth noting that alcohol is served there and they do advertise happy hour and some alcohol-related events like a sangria brunch. Those times could be less family-oriented. Check their website for more details.
Logistics
Soma StrEat Food Park was easy to find, sandwiched between Highway 101 and Costco. We were able to find metered parking nearby on the street, or there were a couple pay parking options within walking distance. The Soma StrEat Food Park website gives options for parking and public transportation as well as pricing for taxis and ride shares.
The park is open (pre-Covid) for lunch every day and for dinner Tuesday through Saturday.
