The International Fountain

The International Fountain is a centerpiece of the Seattle Center, and when the weather is warm, it tuns into the the most awesome spray park around.  There are walkways down to the fountain itself,  and you can run around getting misted or outright drenched by the fountains, jets, and water cannons, all set to music.  Even if you want to stay dry, it’s fun to watch the kids enjoying themselves.

Artists at Play

The Artists at Play area is home to one of the most awesome play structures we have ever seen.  It’s tall enough to make parents nervous, but I’ve never seen anyone fall off of it.  It’s got ropes, walkways, slides, ladders, and pods to hide in.

There’s a smaller structure nearby for toddlers.  Although the climbing area is the focal point of the area, there are also several interactive music installations, a safety-conscious take on the classic playground merry-go-round, and a painted labyrinth you can walk.

The Armory building includes a display area that has a huge model train set up during Winterfest.  The set-up is enormous and includes scenes from a turn-of-the-century village and countryside.  Kids can stand in line to take a turn at being the “engineer” while the train makes a complete circuit of the track.

Fun You Luck Into

You never know what you might luck into at the Center.  Sometimes there’s someone making enormous bubbles or a stand giving away free guacamole samples.  Sometimes there’s a free show on the stage in the Armory, and once we lucked into a car show taking place outside the Armory.  Basically, there’s always something going on at the Seattle Center, and you can often have fun for free.
